The role of The University of Benghazi in serving the community
From its social responsibility towards the community, The University of Benghazi has formed a committee, chaired by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Abdelkarim Al-Ghazali. The tasks of this committee include preparing medical alcohol, testing the quality of these substances, and assessing their impact on the environment and public health to cover the shortage of sterilization materials in hospitals.
In the same context, Dr. Abdelkarim Al-Ghazali stated that they noticed some individuals using highly dangerous chemical substances as sterilizers. For example, the misuse of isopropanol in street sterilization, which is both incorrect and hazardous. Similarly, the use of white alcohol, or what is known as “denatured alcohol”, causes liver and lung fibrosis and damages the nervous system.
There are safe alternatives that can be used as disinfectants and sanitizers. Given the important role of the university in serving the community, a committee was formed to prepare and manufacture sanitizers to address the shortage in hospitals and the medical supply system.
During the next week, the first batch of these sanitizers will be produced, meeting international standards. These sanitizers will be distributed across our beloved country.
Furthermore, this committee will have a role in guidance, awareness, and education to reduce diseases resulting from the improper use of hazardous chemical substances as sterilizers.
